Hi, I’m Jenn, and I’m the JAK in JAK + PHIL. The fluffy white, that’s Phil.
Our story begins in 2018, when a dear friend gifted us a homemade rope leash. It was beautiful, functional, not too heavy and not too light, and it became our everyday go-to leash for four solid years. When the sad day came and it needed to be replaced do to regular wear and tear I set off on a mission to find one just like it, but I failed. They were either too heavy, too bulky, or just didn’t have the right feel. So, I set out to try to recreate the one my friend had made us, and with her tutelage and gracious guidance, I did just that. After months of researching dozens of different types of rope from climbing and marine to equestrian and arborist, and testing out a variety of hardware trying to find the one that was the perfect balance of form and function, I created the first JAK + PHIL leash — The Kentfield. And now we have embarked on a journey to share what we have created and love so much with you.
Each leash is lovingly handcrafted by me at our home workshop in Marin County, CA, just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. I love the process and focus only the best of my intentions and energy into each one. Having been a creative most of my life, I had always wanted to start a business where I could create something I’m passionate about, and these days, there’s not much I love more than my little rescue dog, Phil. He has inspired this business, and this business is giving us the opportunity to give back to as many animals as we can along the way. I hope our products bring as much happiness to our customers as they do to us. Happy walkies!
